Syntax Problems – Study No 3, 2011, The Second Act Festival, De Brakke Grond, Amsterdam
The audience witnesses the production of a movie that is set up as a language course for a newly developed language of things. Structural differences of the system of objects and the system of words become apparent.

    Collaboration with Zhana Ivanova.
Duels: Shadow play, 2005, performance, 15 min, with Zhana Ivanova
One after the other, each of us randomly draws a small piece of paper out of a box. The box contains a collection of opening sentences from selected novels. The sentence is read out loud and the paper is then carefully folded, placed on the table and covered with an object. These are familiar domestic tools and products. This process repeats again and again.
In what looks like an unusual chess game, the stories are left unfinished and the objects accumulate into a predestined pattern. Things seem a little different though, with the lights off.

Vocabulary, 2005, installation, at Dolores, Ellen de Bruijne Projects
A work about representation and language. This installation consists of tableaus of strictly arranged clusters of objects and the vocabulary of Basic English on game cards. Initially the collections seem to be placed according to a predetermined continuous logic: each word corresponds to an object. But as the days pass the words seem to live their own lifes. Flying from object to object, sometimes staying a bit to pollinate, the words create a range of new meanings and associations. Irrational storylines begin to emerge, and the initial recognizable order system seems no longer tangible.
Hello Stranger, 2005, tour, 75 min, with Zhana Ivanova
Close Connections, Ellen de Bruijne Projects
An invited audience is intercepted on their way to the gallery. They are all foreign business travellers and strangers to the city. Soon after they are invited to embark on a small bus with darkened windows, the door slams behind them and a jolted ride begins. One after the other the passengers are dropped of in town and lead away until the bus is empty. Each member of the audience has been distributed to a prearranged location in the area. These include the local fire department, an old ladys home, a canal boat and the studio of a dog painter amongst many others. The hosts had been instructed to go about their usual activities as they would. Free to treat their guests in any way they wish, they could be asking them to help, showing them around or simply talking with them for a while. The guest on the other hand, would have to do their best to adjust within their surprise situation. We learned later that these situations varied from learning how to make baklava to going on an emergency fire call with the fire fighters!
Duels: Close to the edge, 2004, performance, 10 min, with Zhana Ivanova
Close to the Edge with its consequent order resembles the form of a break-dance duel. Each of us attempts to build a tower out of ordinary objects, the aim being to outdo the other, with a higher and more beautiful construction. Yet it only takes a breath in the wrong direction for everything to fall apart.
  A B C D, 2003, installation, with my grandfather, Theodor Mucker.
Consortium Ten goats pulled ten pounds of sugar to the zoo
An installation about (and in collaboration with) my grandfather. He was a pensioned mathematician who sufferd in his late days from short-time-memory loss. In order to cope with this disorientation, he arranged his household around a domestic signage system. Items of daily use were numbered or had written abbreviations on them, the house was covered with hand-written warning signs. Since years I foster an ongoing selection of material, handmade objects and signs, audio and video documentation about our talks about memory, abstract geometry, recycling and the beauty of duck tape. In this particular installation I tried to combine my order-related works with his.
Its a kind of magic, 2003, performance, 85 minutes
with Eva Meyer-Keller and Alexandra Bachzetsis
It's a kind of magic deals with the part of the world that humans perceive subconsciously, if at all. In a laboratory situation different activities take place at the time, executed in a slow, introvert and inexpert fashion. We try out techniques to infringe the borders of perception, we sing songs while we conduct telekinetic experiments, we occasionally demonstrate scientific models, or play video interviews in which experts and others report strange occurrences. In the process, facts, hypothesis, half-truth and actions tangle up into a mess in which it becomes more and more difficult to orientate.
